Recent Paintings at Vacant Assembly presents a range of paintings that have been informed by my current PhD studies. I have been exploring the influence of personal digital technology on the production of paintings, examining the way screens frame and fragment our vision and consciousness resulting in a potential opposition to, or transposition of, the gesture/index of the artist. Emerging from the hybridisation of digital and analogue processes these paintings form palimpsests or layered surfaces, which emphasise the fracture of paint and the material presence of its support. They exhibit images and ideas that integrate my perpetual and cultural environments forming paradoxically heterogeneous and homogenous pictures.
