HELEN HARDESS & TRISTAN EYLES
De-Fence; in-Scribe
Opening Event: Friday 4 Sep 6-9pm
Continues: Saturday 5 Sep 10-4pm with a Performance in the afternoon - Sunday 6 Sep 10-1pm
In De-fence, in-scribe, Hardess and Eyles present singular iterations of their most recent bodies of work. Their practices concern the interconnections between contemporary art making and environmental concerns in the colonial context.
Here, materiality is at the forefront. Clay slip, end user stones, and temporary fencing are selected based on their discursive expressions. In a world where 'the market has retaken and recolonised environmental practices' ¹, how can contemporary art function to meaningfully address these issues?

On Saturday the 5th, Eyles will be presenting a live audio mix. Sounds excavated from socialized nature will be combined with his own field recordings, to explore the concepts of green capitalism through sound. This event will also feature additional sets from three other local post-industrial artists (acts TBA).
