To be a River

  • Vacant Assembly 266 Montague Road West End, QLD, 4101 Australia (map)

‘To be a River’ documents the artist’s journey traversing inner and outer landscapes. This body of work spans a 2 year trek around the Americas, Europe & Australian mountains and coastlines. The artmaking process begins drawing from nature, quite literally with rolled out canvas on the ground, high up on cliff faces or beside waterways. In charcoal the artist responds to the surroundings drawing with lyrical lines, informed by the rocks and textures beneath.

“I draw what I see and feel, it's a meditational response of being within the landscape, a commune with the elements and sentinel beings as friends or collaborators within the process.”

This body of work also maps the experience of love and loss and the healing power of artmaking, as the artist navigates the heartbreaking journey of losing a child. ‘To be River’ is a metaphor of finding your way home back to the sea, a conscious flow through mountainous chasms while walking the shadowy depths of inner landscapes.

You are invited to join us for music and drinks with  DJ offering to be announced. Watercolour and Charcoal workshops will be held across the weekend (2-4pm) with booking details to be announced soon.
