Ceramics Open Studio Weekend

  • Vacant Assembly 266 Montague Rd West End (map)

Australian Ceramics Association National Open Studio Weekend

Vacant Assembly resident artists Jen Hillhouse, Julie Smeros and Laura Pascoe will be demonstrating their process throughout the weekend. They will each have some work on display and available for purchase.

21st and 22nd November 11-3pm

Jennifer Hillhouse enjoys working with form, curves and balance, there is something very calming about a curve. Most of her work is influenced by the sea and icons in and around it. Man-made and natural forms that speak of our relationship with the ocean and how we try, in vain, to tame it.

Julie Smeros Ceramics is a play of porcelain, cobalt and mythology. Her influences from her years living in Japan and her Greek heritage are merged to create functional and sculptural work.  Her imagery and repeated motifs  reflect the tradition of story telling from generation to generation and those found on Greek pottery.

Laura Pascoe is inspired by nature and particularly loves brushwork, layering and glaze alchemy.  The majority of her work is wheel thrown and functional although she does also work with hand-built and extruded sculptural forms.
