RAW: Ensemble Sooon album launch w/Laik

  • Vacant Assembly 266 Montague Road West End, QLD, 4101 Australia (map)

Ensemble Sooon release their second album, Raw through MNM. Following on the first, a conceptual studio album, Sooon documents the energy of their live shows, featuring wild improv + Atonal Music by Hauer, a surprisingly meditative work, a premonition decades ahead of its time. Virtuosity and hummable melodies appears throughout Glasshouses, exploring perpetual motion through circular breathing and morphing repetitions. Ligeti’s Goat by Kay, is an hilariously epic piece. Brentley Frazer’s passionate homage to Sinead O’Connor, is poignantly read by Danielle Bentley, with melodic frags.

Also playing a set is the amazing Laik, the ever-evolving project of Meanjin creatives Brandon Mamata and Hannah Macklin. These two never present the same set twice, catering to each performance and its unique setting. Blending industrial tech-pop with R&B riffs and jazz improvisation, ethereal and affected vocals singing world scales, LAIK focuses on the definition of its namesake: play!
