Save What You Can Carry
By Monique Ross
A woven exploration of what we (should) value most.
If your home was burning down, what one item would you take? It used to be photos or a family heirloom, but these days, most people say they’d grab their phone or computer. One survey found just 18 % would rescue something sentimental; just 1% of us would save a work of art. It says a lot about what we value.
Our house is on fire, figuratively and literally. But do we value the natural world enough to save it?
Through hand-woven works and found objects, Save What You Can Carry invites you to celebrate nature, reflect on the true cost of capitalism and consumerism, and consider those who will ultimately pay the highest price for climate inaction.
Monique Ross is a fibre artist, and a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide. She is the founder of Heartwood Nature Bathing, and works in mindful collaboration with nature.
Monique will be running an Open Studio in the Project Space through September, sharing her creative processes and practice. Visitors to the Project Space will be invited to contribute to a Community Weave Project, to be showcased at an event on September 28.
A series of weaving workshops will also be offered.
